Can anyone tell me more about hybrid contracts? I’ve been offered one but I’m not sure if it’s the way to go.

Hi Freddie, I’ve come across two publishers that operate this kind of deal. I was thrilled a few years ago when I had my science fiction manuscript ‘accepted’ by Austin Macauley. However, upon further inspection, it was really a deal in which I would pay the upfront costs of publishing and they would help with the promotional work. I didn’t go ahead because it wasn’t the sort of way I wanted to get published. Maybe I was too proud! Anyway, later I saw another company, Olympia publishers, offering a similar kind of deal.
I would be interested to read about the experiences of anyone who went down this route. Is it better than just self-publishing on your own? There are some excellent P.O.D. deals out there now.
