I was reading an obituary of the late Wilbur Smith today. He wrote a lot of great adventures usually set in Africa featuring a strong male lead. I remember my gran absolutely lapping up every book of his that came out. Anyway, what I liked in the obituary was this line about his breakthrough book, When the Lion Feeds which earned him riches and enabled him to give up the day job.
“When the book was published, he later told an interviewer, “I worked for the income tax department and as it stands now I’m still working for the damned thing”.
